Abby and Brittany Hensel

Abby Loraine Hensel and Brittany Lee Hensel are conjoined twins from the United States, who became known in 2007 after starring in Abby & Brittany, an American reality series.

The conjoined twins are dicephalic (having 2 heads joined on 1 torso), and this is highly symmetric among conjoined twins, giving the appearance of an entire body without marked variation of typical proportions. Each has their own heart, stomach, etc.

Although Abby and Brittany each have a separate head, we’ll get to that. But they do share the same body. They both control one arm and one leg, but Abby controls her right side while Brittany controls her left. Learning to crawl, walk, clap, etc. requires cooperation as infants. They are also able to do things separately at the same time – e.g., eat or write simultaneously. Activities such as running or driving require coordinated action.

The Twin’s progress has been covered extensively in the media, with appearances on shows like Life magazine and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Abby and Brittany were interviewed on The Learning Channel in December 2006, talking about their day-to-day lives and future plans. They also starred in their own reality show that showcased their everyday lives, which was streamed live by millions of people.

Abby and Brittany Hensel Age

The twins were born on March 7th, 1990 to Patty, an RN, and Mike Hensel, a carpenter and landscaper. However, the Hensel’s turned 33 years old this year in 2024. In addition to their parents’ children, the twins also have a younger brother and sister.

Education

According to Wikipedia, they were raised in New Germany, Minnesota, and went to Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer and later graduated from Bethel University in St. Paul back in 2012.

New Germany is a city in Carver County, USA. The population was 372 at the 2010 census. It’s interesting to note that many of its early-day settlers were of German descent, which may explain the name of the city. Hahaha, well the name Hensel sounds German too. Take that as you will!

 Height

Abby is about 5’2″ tall. She’s taller than Brittany at 4’10”

NO. The twins’ parents decided against surgery after hearing the prognosis. The chance of both of them surviving was very slim. The twins both passed their driver’s license exams, both the written and practical tests. In spite of driving being a coordinated activity, they had to take the test twice once for each twin. Abby controls the right-hand side of the steering wheel, Brittany, the left. Together they control the car.

They are both college graduates of Bethel University in Arden Hills, Minnesota, who majored in education. The Hensel’s considered pursuing other concentrations within their major but felt that the coursework would be too much. They graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in 2012.
